About My Graduating E-Portfolio
Through this e-portfolio, I have illustrated a summary of two and a half years of learning journey in the Master of Education in Early Childhood Education program at the University of British Columbia.
The purpose of this e-portfolio is what I have taken away to share with parents and educators to support the flower in the garden, the metaphor I have chosen for young children in early learning and care, in practicing children's autonomy, kindness and individuality - the fundamental aspects of early learning and care and living the beauty of difference.
Every story starts with an idea, and runs through chapters, and so has my metaphor and this learning journey. Being an early childhood educator made continuous reflections possible for me along the way of being and learning with children, and brought up the opportunity to put together all the beautiful ideas behind the flower in the garden, my metaphor for this e-portfolio. Please explore my Metaphor and Learning Goals related to it. Each goal supports the flower in the garden, with the artifacts chosen from various courses of the Master of Education Program.

Goals
To Support Children’s Individuality, Uniqueness and Differences
“I think about my early elementary years and wonder about the possibilities that would have been presented if I had been more exposed to an open-ended classroom, one that valued (...) individuality; one where failure did not completely uproot someone” (Nontell, 2021, p.280).
|
To Provide Children with the Environment to Practice Kindness
"Learning across the lifespan involves actively exploring, seeking, and developing knowledge in order to act on and within everyday worlds with increasing understanding and confidence" (Wood & Hedges, 2016, p.397).
|
To Provide Children with the Environment to Practice Autonomy
“When the children were co-authoring the conversation, they tended to take it in unexpected directions” (Carr, 2011, p. 263).
